The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is a relief and human development agency. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions from UN Member States.
UNRWA moves its headquarters to Gaza City as part of its response to the Middle East Peace Process, initiated in 1991 by the Madrid Conference. In response to Oslo I, the Agency begins developing its Peace Implementation Programme, preparing to hand over its responsibilities in the oPt to the Palestinian Authority. Back to 1990s decade
Working at UNRWA UNRWA has over 30,000 employees, most of them Palestine refugees and a small number of international staff, in two headquarter offices (Gaza and Amman), five field offices (Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and West Bank), and in four Representative/Liaison Offices (New York, Geneva, Brussels and Cairo).
As part of this overall strategy, the UNRWA Central Support Services Division in Headquarters Amman and in the Fields continuously seek and promote the commitment of their staff members to the UNRWA Staff Standards of Conduct.
