The 5th Transport Squadron was formed on 30th May 1966, then known as 5th Transport Company RAASC. The Company was raised at Frasers Paddock, (currently Gallipoli Barracks) from a Citizens Military Forces unit. Immediately after formation, the unit was transferred to Ingleburn, NSW to prepare for duty in South Vietnam.

Headquarters 26 Tpt Coy RAASC was formed in Nui Dat inDec 1967 under command of Major G.J. Christopherson(2). 26 Coytook over the second line role from 5 Coy which remained in VungTau. 85 Tpt Platoon was reallocated to 26 Coy, as was Det 176Air Dispatch Coy.
