The 24th Marine Regiment (24th Marines) was one of three infantry regiments in the 4th Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps. Its last headquarters before being deactivated on September 9, 2013 was in Kansas City, Missouri.
The 24th Marine Regiment sailed from San Diego, California in January 1944 for the Marshall Islands. Their first action was to take part in teh seizure of Roi-Namur, twin islands in the Kwajalein Atoll. On February 1st, the 24th Regiment assaulted Namur. The 2nd Battalion accompanied by the 3rd Battalion led the attack. On moving inland the Regiment met strong resistence.
This website is dedicated to the Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Regiment, 4th Mar Div WWII. I have seen various sites for different companies, but none devoted to HQ-2-24. I am the son of Sergeant Leon Padelskas (now Padell), one of the men of the Headquarters Company (in photo above, front row, 1st seated on far left).
